14-year-old girl found dead in backseat after suspected DUI crash, but body shows no signs of trauma: Police

Authorities in California are investigating the death of a 14-year-old girl who was found unresponsive in the back of a vehicle following a suspected DUI crash.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, police responded to a report of a hit-and-run Monday afternoon in Santa Rosa. The caller or callers said a car hit another vehicle near Bay Village Circle and left the scene. Police quickly located the vehicle not far from the crash site. The driver of the car, a 16-year-old female, reportedly appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

Emergency responders attempted to revive the 14-year-old girl who was unresponsive in the backseat, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. The 16-year-old girl was arrested and taken to a hospital.

Police are still working to determine the 14-year-old girl’s cause of death, but she did not have any obvious injuries to indicate she died as a direct result of the crash.

“There were no signs of trauma to the victim and the circumstances surrounding her death are still under investigation,” Santa Rosa police said in a statement obtained by the San Francisco Chronicle.
