Fisherman reels in dead body, sees shirt, pants, knew it ‘wasn’t a fish’

A fisherman in New York City hooked a decomposing body while fishing at Canarsie Pier in Brooklyn.

According to the New York Post, Queens resident Edmond Stringa was fishing on Monday when his hook caught onto something that appeared to be very big. The report indicates that Stringa did not contact authorities right away — perhaps unaware at that time that it was not a fish — but returned to the same location the next day with a bigger hook and a stronger line.

That’s when Stringa saw the decomposing body.

“It was really heavy. When I pulled it out a little bit, I saw the shoes, the pants,” the fisherman told the New York Post. “I thought it was something suspicious. I knew it wasn’t a fish.”

Stringa called 911, and police are now investigating the death. According to the report, the body was too decomposed to make an immediate identification.
