SEE IT: Ex shoots California mother dead in front of screaming 3-year-old child, caught on security camera [Police]

California authorities are searching for a man accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend to death with a semi-automatic handgun.

The Los Angeles Police Department reports that the incident happened around 9:25 a.m. on Wednesday, off of Bartee Avenue in Los Angeles. According to police, the suspect, identified as 46-year-old Herbert Nixon Flores, is at large and should be considered armed and dangerous.

Security footage taken of the shooting showed Flores exiting his car and pulling out a gun while in the driveway of the home, while his former girlfriend, 35-year-old Karen Ruiz, attempted to run from him. Flores allegedly pointed at Ruiz and fired, hitting her several times, while a young child screamed in the background.

Paramedics arrived and pronounced Ruiz dead at the scene, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

KTLA 5 reports that a man inside the home can be heard saying, “he killed her.”

“The relationship was violent,” LAPD Detective Sharon Kim said. ”She had several reports made against him over the years and most recently she took out a restraining order against him due to some violent acts he committed against her.”

“He has a violent criminal history. He is an MS-13 gang member.”
