Texas student stabbed to death in her apartment; ex-boyfriend found dead in next county: Police

A 23-year-old woman was found murdered in her Texas apartment, and her ex-boyfriend has also been found dead.

According to KCBD, police in Lubbock went to Molly Beckman’s residence at the Ashton Pointe Apartments Wednesday night for a requested welfare check and found her dead of multiple stab wounds. Her death is being investigated as a homicide.

Beckman’s ex-boyfriend, 23-year-old Colton Totzke, was also found dead, in neighboring Crosby County. Authorities have not provided specifics about Totzke’s cause or manner of death, but appear to believe he is the primary suspect in Beckman’s murder.

Beckman was a student in the The Texas Tech Health Sciences Center. EverythingLubbock.com obtained the following statement from Texas Tech officials:

The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center family is deeply saddened to learn of the death of TTUHSC student Molly Beckman at her off-campus residence. Our community mourns her tragic loss.

We know this news is difficult to process and affects many members of our campus community. Any students, faculty and staff in need of support are encouraged to use university resources provided by the Counseling Center and Employee Assistance Program. During this time, please respect her family’s privacy and grief as well as those in our university family. In the days ahead, we hope her family and friends will find some comfort in knowing their loss is shared by our School of Health Professions and university.

Our thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones and the many members of the Red Raider family as we grieve her loss.

As KCDB reports, investigators believe Beckman’s death was a domestic-related homicide, and there is no ongoing danger to the public.
