Missing teen girl who vanished after going for a walk found dead; police say death is suspicious

Police are investigating the suspicious death of a 16-year-old girl who was found dead the day after her family reported her missing.

As the Detroit Free Press reports, Leah Conner of Avoca went for a walk Saturday morning at about 11:30 a.m. and did not return. Her family reported her missing late Saturday afternoon. Police launched a search of the area with the help of K-9 dogs, with the investigation focused on the Wadhams to Avoca trail near the Trestle Bridge.

Investigators found Leah’s body early Sunday morning. Police have not yet disclosed exactly where Leah was found or the condition of her body.

A medical examiner will perform an autopsy to help determine the cause of death. While police reportedly believe Leah’s death is suspicious, authorities have said there is no immediate threat to the general public.

Anyone with possible information is urged to call the Michigan State Police Lapeer Post at 810-664-2905.
