Daycare owner facing child abuse charges after Covid-19 outbreak

A daycare owner and two employees in Omaha are expected to be charged with child abuse.

Omaha police told WOWT that Rosewood Academy owner Carl Hansen is facing misdemeanor child abuse charges. Two employees at the daycare are also facing citations.

The charges come two weeks after an outbreak of Covid-19 at the daycare. According to an earlier WOWT report, over 100 Covid-19 cases were reported at a Rosewood Academy location. Of those cases, the majority were of the same UK-based variant, Douglas County Health Department officials told the news outlet.

At the time of the earlier report, published in late March, health officials were reportedly investigating a second outbreak which may have been related to the cases at the daycare.

It is not yet known if the child abuse charges are connected to the Covid-19 outbreak.
