A 17-year-old who reportedly attempted to throw herself off of a Florida overpass on Father’s Day tried the same thing again on Monday.

According to Flagler Live, numerous people called 911 to report a girl holding onto the outside grill of the Palm Coast Parkway overpass above I-95 in Flagler County, threatening suicide. As two bystanders attempted to talk to her, authorities closed off Palm Coast Parkway westbound.

A female deputy who knew that the teen preferred not to deal with men soon arrived and helped pull her to safety. When the teen let go of the grill, the deputy quickly caught her.

“Myself along with three civilians were attempting to get her down,” Deputy Crista Rainey said. “I advised the two male civilians to stand back as the female does not like males. I asked the female civilian to talk to the female while I stood by for a chance to grab her arms through the fence.”

“As the female placed her left arms close to the fence. I was able to slip my arms through the holes in the fence securing her arm, then helped secure the other arm while I waited for a second unit.”

Following the incident, Sheriff Rick Staly with the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office implored social services to help her.

“I implore the Department of Children and Families to intervene quickly and get this juvenile the help she needs before it is too late,” Staly said. “She is crying out for help and I am fearful that one time she will be successful.

The teen was placed under the Baker Act before riding with Rainey to the AdventHealth Palm Coast for medical help.

“The quick response and combined efforts of FCSO deputies, Crisis Negotiations, Communications Center, Fire Rescue saved a life today. I hope that she gets the help she desperately needs,” Staly added.
