Sheriff’s Deputy Shot After Traffic Stop Turns Into Violent Car Chase, Suspect on The Loose: Report

A San Bernardino Sheriff’s deputy was shot during a traffic chase that turned dramatically violent.

According to KTLA, the 29-year-old sheriff’s deputy, who remained unidentified, was attempting to pull over a vehicle in San Bernardino on Tuesday afternoon. The drive of the vehicle reportedly did not comply and gave chase.

The report states that surveillance video taken from the scene shows a patrol car chasing after a white vehicle, which rounds a corner. At that point, the suspect appears to have opened fire: Approximately 20 gunshots were heard as the patrol car came to a stop.

The suspect allegedly fled the scene. Police have not yet provided further information about a possible suspect identification.

The police officer reportedly suffered superficial injuries and is hospitalized in stable condition.
