Woman Marries 75-year-old to Gain U.S. Citizenship, Then Tries to Kill Him with Straight Razor: Police

A New York woman has pleaded guilty to trying to kill her husband in order to gain U.S. citizenship.

According to the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office, 30-year-old Olivia Raimo wedged her husband, a 74-year-old, between a toilet and a wall. She then slit his wrists with a straight razor in an attempt to kill him. The incident happened in the pair’s Westchester County home in January 2020.

Police discovered the victim after his home health aide called for help, claiming Raimo refused to let her inside the home. When police arrived, they found the victim screaming for help in the bathroom. He was rushed to the Jacobi Hospital in the Bronx where he underwent two surgeries. He lost the use of one hand after the attack.

Raimo is from Jamaica, the DA’s office instead. She married the victim in 2017. By 2020, the two prepared “for an interview with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services to demonstrate their marriage was legitimate.”

They were informed during the meeting that they would have a difficult time passing their marriage interview. Following investigations, police arrested Raimo in February 2020.

In November 2021, Raimo pleaded guilty to attempted murder. Thie week, she was sentenced to 15 years behind bars.

“Violent acts are particularly heinous when they target the elderly,” Westchester County District Attorney Miriam Rocah said on Thursday. “My office will continue to work with our partners in law enforcement to pursue justice for all vulnerable victims of crime.”
