Mother, 6-year-old Daughter ‘Gang-raped’ After Accepting Ride Home from Group of Men: Reports

Authorities in Uttarakhand (India) are searching for a group of men who allegedly raped a mother and her child after offering them a ride home from a religious site in Roorkee.

According to NDTV, the incident happened in northern India when a mother and her 6-year-old child were trying to go home from the Muslim site, Piran Kaliyar, when a man offered them a ride home.

Superintendent of Police (Rural) Pramendra Doval said the man, identified as “Sonu,” had a group of friends in the car with him and knew the mother.

The mother said that the group promised to take her home, but instead, raped her and her child while the car was still moving. The group later dumped the victims off at a canal, then fled.

The woman managed to contact the police in the middle of the night, according to investigators. Both mother and daughter were then admitted to the Roorkee Civil hospital, where a medical examination confirmed they had been sexually assaulted.

“She had injuries in her private parts area. However, her condition is now stable,” Chief Medical Superintendent of Roorkee Civil hospital, Dr. Sanjay Kansal, said, according to The Times of India.

The suspects have not been captured but police are “gathering CCTV footage from various important points that fall on the route of the crime and the investigation is on to nab the accused,” Devendra Singh Chauhan, of the Civil Lines police, said.
