Police: 13-year-old Boy Arrested & Charged as Adult for Easter Sunday Murder

A 13-year-old Georgia boy is behind bars after he fatally shot someone on Easter Sunday in La Grange, police say.

According to Fox 5, Jayden Gunsby turned himself in to La Grange police Monday, following the death of Davaris Lindsey, 20. Lindsay was shot numerous times on Easter Sunday, near Colquitt Street. Police say that the victim was rushed to Wellstar West Georgia Medical, then transferred to another area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

LaGrange Police Lieutenant Mark Cavender said that Gunsby is not the only suspect in the case, 11 Alive reports.

“Some of the parties that we know that may be involved do have gang ties. So we’re definitely looking at the gang aspect as well,” Cavender said.

Cavender added that the suspect was charged as an adult because of the severity of the crime.

“Murder is considered one of the seven deadly sins in the state of Georgia. There are seven types of felonies where a juvenile, as long as they’re 13 years of age or older can be charged as an adult with one of these seven deadly sins,” he said.

“It’s becoming less and less rare today to encounter some of our younger youth that are becoming more and more involved in violent crime. It starts in the home. If parents aren’t involved and they don’t see what their kids are involved in… my opinion, you can’t be really surprised whenever something like this happens.”
