Delphi Murders: Accused Child Murderer Richard Allen Tells Wife During Jail Call That He Killed 2 Girls

On Wednesday, newly unsealed documents related to the 2017 Delphi, Indiana, murders shed light on the case against Richard Allen, who stands accused of murdering two teen girls.

Judge Frances Gull unsealed approximately 120 documents on Wednesday, which included details on how investigators believe Abigail Willims, 13, and Libby German, 14, were killed. The documents also indicated that Richard Allen told his wife, as well as his mother, during jail calls that he carried out the murders.

“Investigators had the phone call transcribed and the transcription confirms that Richard Allen admits that he committed the murders of Abigail Williams and Liberty German,” court documents read. “He admits several times within the phone call that he committed the offenses as charged.”

“[Allen] has admitted that he committed the offenses that he is charged with no less than 5 times while talking to his wife and his mother on the public jail phones available at the Indiana Department of Corrections.”

Court documents also indicate that the killer used a sharp object and possibly took underwear and other items from the scene.

“Autopsies of the girls ruled their deaths as homicides and their wounds were caused by sharp object,” court documents state. “Articles of clothing from the girls were missing from the scene, including a pair of underwear and a sock.”

As CrimeOnline reported, the Delphi Double Homicide Task Force took Allen into custody on October 28 last year at his home in Delphi.

The victims were found murdered near the Monon High Bridge on February 14, 2017, after taking an outing to the bridge the day prior. The outing was only meant for a few hours, and when the girls failed to return, family members contacted police.

One of the girls, likely sensing danger, recorded the man’s voice on her cellphone prior to the murders. She also managed to take a photo and record a small clip of the suspect. Although his face isn’t clear in the picture, it was enough to give authorities a general description. Since then, they’ve been poring through thousands of tips, leading to Allen’s arrest.

Meanwhile, detectives continue to ask anyone who may have additional information to email abbyandlibbytip@cacoshrf.com or call 765-822-3535.

“This investigation is still very ongoing. We are keeping the tip line open, not only about Richard Allen but any other person,” Carroll County Prosecutor Nick McLeland previously said. “We cannot talk about the evidence in the probable cause or the charging information … today’s about Abby and Libby, focusing on them.”
