Missing New Hampshire Nurse & Child Kidnapped While Working for Non-profit Agency in Haiti

A New Hampshire mother and her “young daughter”  have reportedly been kidnapped in Haiti.

Boston 25 News reports that Alix Dorsainvil, 31, and her child vanished July 27 while volunteering close to El Tio Haiti’s Port au Prince, as a community health nurse. Officials say she’s the wife of the organization’s director, Sandro Dorsainvil.

“Alix is a deeply compassionate and loving person who considers Haiti her home and the Haitian people her friends and family. Alix has worked tirelessly as our school and community nurse to bring relief to those who are suffering as she loves and serves the people of Haiti in the name of Jesus,” the nonprofit agency said.

CNN reports that Alix was serving in the community ministry on El Roi Haiti’s campus when the kidnapping occurred, on the same day that the U.S. Department of State issued a travel advisory, urging US nationals in the country to depart Haiti.

“Kidnapping is widespread, and victims regularly include U.S. citizens. Kidnappers may use sophisticated planning or take advantage of unplanned opportunities, and even convoys have been attacked. Kidnapping cases often involve ransom negotiations and U.S. citizen victims have been physically harmed during kidnappings.”

“Victim’s families have paid thousands of dollars to rescue their family members.”

US officials know about the abduction and continue to work with Haitian law enforcement and US government interagency partners, a State Department spokesperson told CNN in a statement.

“The U.S. Department of State and our embassies and consulates abroad have no higher priority than the safety and security of U.S. citizens overseas,” the spokesperson said.

Further, officials warned that the US government’s means to provide emergency services to US citizens in Haiti is lacking at this time.

“Given the recent armed clashes between gangs and the police and the high threat of violent crime and kidnapping throughout Port-au-Prince, the Department of State urges U.S. citizens to make plans to depart Haiti as soon as possible via commercial means,” an advisory stated.

The age of Alix’s child is unclear at this time. Check back for updates.
