BREAKING: SUZANNE MORPHEW REMAINS FOUND

More than three years after her disappearance, law enforcement officials in Colorado say the remains of missing mother-of-two Suzanne Morphew  have been found.

According to CBS News, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation said the remains were discovered on September 22, “in the area of Moffat in Saguache County.” On Wednesday, the El Paso County Coroner positively identified the remains as Morphew.

Saguache County Coroner Tom Perrin said the bones were found scattered in a remote, dry desert field of sagebrush and natural grasses and appeared to have been buried in a shallow grave before they were scattered, the Denver Gazette reported.

Perrin said he was called to collect the remains on Friday and take them to El Paso County for an autopsy. They were positively identified on Wednesday.

The CBI said the remains were found during an unrelated search. Sources told the Gazette that the location was about 30 to 40 minutes from the Morphew home in Chaffee County but would not provide further details.

Morphew’s sister, Melinda Moorman Balzer, told the Gazette that Chaffee County Sheriff John Spezze notified her of the identification after first notifying her husband, Barry Morphew, who is next of kin.

“This is a miracle. It’s like looking for a needle in a haystack,” Moorman Balzer said. “Colorado is a vast and rugged place and we have prayed that God would put light on where she is. We have been praying and here we are today. It’s day of great sadness, but a day of celebration.”

“While this case has garnered attention from around the world, it has touched our community and the sheriff’s office deeply,” Chaffee County Spezze said after the discovery, CBS reported. “We have never stopped our investigation and will continue to follow all leads in pursuit of justice for Suzanne.”

“Although locating Suzanne’s remains is a critical component of this investigation, and for her family, we are left with many more questions than answers, and it would be a disservice to conduct a news conference at this time.”

As CrimeOnline previously reported, Suzanne Morphew disappeared on Mother’s Day 2020, after heading out for a bike ride in Chaffee County, according to what her husband, Barry Morphew, said. She never returned home.

Her bicycle was discovered down a steep ravine at Chaffee County Road 225. Investigators said the bike appeared undamaged with no signs of blood. After her disappearance, Barry Morphew claimed Suzanne had likely been abducted.

Friends, however, told investigators that the pair had been arguing about finances, and Suzanne may have possibly had a boyfriend. On the day before her disappearance, Suzanne Morphew had “59 communications” exchanges with a man who was allegedly her boyfriend, CBS Colorado reports.

Barry Morphew was arrested and charged with his wife’s murder, but the case was dismissed without prejudice in 2022, meaning it can be reopened if evidence warrants.

Barry Morphew’s defense attorney, Iris Eytan, previously stated Barry was unaware of Suzanne’s reported 2-year affair with and that the alleged boyfriend has not been fully probed by investigators.

So far, there have been no additional arrests in the case. The investigation remains open and tipsters are urged to contact the CBI tipline for the case at (719) 312-7530.

“I believed this day would come. Like many, I feel deep sorrow and at the same time, deep anger. There is only one thing to do … seek justice for Suzanne,” CrimeOnline’s Nancy Grace told Fox News Digital.
