Georgia Mother Faces Murder Charge After Leaving 1-year-old Tot to Die in Hot Car: Police

A Georgia mother is behind bars after police say she left her 1-year-old daughter inside a hot car, leading to the child’s death.

According to 11Alive News, Newton County deputies responded to a call Tuesday, concerning an unresponsive child at Highway 162 and Rocky Plains Road. Deputies found an unresponsive toddler and immediately started life-saving procedures.

The victim was then rushed to Newton Piedmont Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The sheriff’s office said Thursday that the victim likely died from heat exhaustion, sparking a homicide investigation.

Police arrested the child’s mother, identified as 29-year-old Arie Osbey, and charged her with second-degree murder and making false statements.

So far, the victim’s identity has not been publicly released.
