Rachel Morin: Lawyer Warns About Elusive Killer ‘Side-stalking’ Victims, Following Mom-of-5’s Murder

An attorney representing the family of the slain Maryland mom, Rachel Morin, is urging the public to stay vigilant as the killer remains on the run.

During an interview with Patch, attorney Randolph Rice said he believes that the man who murdered Morin is someone inconspicuous, possibly “the guy standing next to you,” who “side-stalks” victims.

“Have you seen that same guy in two different places? Don’t consider it a coincidence,” Rice told Patch.

“Take a pic with your phone, call the sheriff’s office, or email our attorney, and we will forward the tip/picture from you. You must be diligent for your safety and that of your family. He could be the guy standing next to you.”

As CrimeOnline previously reported, police said Morin was found dead on August 6, off the Ma and Pa Heritage Trail. She was found a little over 12 hours after her boyfriend, Richard Tobin, reported her missing when she didn’t return from a run on the trail.

Afterward, Maryland State Police examined the DNA left at the crime scene and processed it in the CODIS database. The DNA came back as a match for a man under suspicion for breaking into a Los Angeles home and assaulting a young girl in March.

Security footage released last year showed the suspect leaving the victim’s home. He appears to be a Hispanic male in his early to mid-20s, who stands around 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing around 160 pounds. Police are currently trying to identify him.

Meanwhile, Morin’s mother, Patty, told Patch that the family, including Morin’s five children (ranging in age from 8 to 18), are doing the best they can, given the circumstances.

“Rachel loved the holidays in our house. It was one of the best seasons of the year. Holidays started when school started, basically. The children were already planning for birthdays.” Patty said.

“We have six in a two-week span, making their costumes for harvest parties, making decorations for Thanksgiving, and we always made gifts for each other for birthdays, Christmas, any holiday or ‘just because I love you’ gifts — a tradition we started when the children were toddlers.

“We wanted them to know it’s not the money spent, but the time and thought invested into the gifts that were made that showed the love and thoughts we have for one another. The child receiving the gift felt loved, and the child who made the gift felt appreciated. A tradition that 40 years later is still practiced and has been passed down.”

Hartford law enforcement is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to the suspect’s arrest.
