Washington Man Arrested for Murder, Police Find Missing Woman’s Motorhome with Crime Evidence Inside

A Washington man is behind bars after police say they found evidence inside a motorhome in Idaho Falls, connected to Megan Ashley Stedman’s disappearance.

According to the Idaho Falls Police Department, 34-year-old Stedman was last seen on December 15 in the Bozeman/Livingston area of Montana. Police said earlier this month that she had a link to a 1973 tan motorhome with damage to the rear driver’s side.

A witness recognized the motorhome parked on Wardell Street and contacted police, KBZK 7 reports. Officers found Chris Foiles, 42, of Spokane, Washington, after locating the vehicle on January 12, and questioned him regarding Stedman’s disappearance.

Police said they found enough evidence inside the vehicle to “support arresting Foiles with Murder in the First Degree.”

The Post Register reports that Foiles, identified as Stedman’s former boyfriend, was already wanted for questioning in connection with her disappearance.

Stedman’s sister, Maria Mitma, posted on Facebook that a body had been found in the vehicle, but police have not confirmed what they found during the search. The Bonneville County Coroner’s Office reportedly declined to comment on the matter.

Friends told KBZK that Stedman had been living in the motorhome while working at Town Pump in Livingston.

“She lived in the RV for some time. She worked here, always had a smile on her face,” coworker Samantha Fillabach said. “She came to work every day and did her job and that is what is important. She did not deserve this.”

Fillabcah reportedly added that Megan’s coworkers were aware she was in an abusive relationship and tried to assist her when they were able.

Court records indicate that Foiles was arrested in November 2023 on charges related to partner/family member assault, involving Stedman. He also has three previous convictions for domestic assault.

Investigators are now trying to determine Foiles’ movements between December 15 and January 12.

Anyone with information on Foiles’ whereabouts during those dates or the motorhome is urged to email Detective Reed at creed@idahofalls.gov. You can also contact the non-emergency dispatch line at 208-529-1200, about case number 2024-1289.
