South Carolina Tot, 3, Identified After Dying in Hot Car

A South Carolina child found dead in a hot car last week has been identified, Richland County officials said.

According to WACH, Richland County Coroner Naida Rutherford identified the child as Armani Shoemaker, 3.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, Richland County deputies were dispatched to the 1000 block of Parliament Lake Drive at around 1 p.m. Friday, in connection with a missing child. They found Armani inside a car unresponsive. He was rushed to the hospital where he subsequently passed away.

“Our hearts are broken by the life of Armani being cut short by this unexpected tragedy,” Coroner Rutherford said. “Losing a child is one of the most unimaginable situations that can happen and our thoughts and prayers go out to this family. We will continue working with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department to fully investigate this incident.”

According to Jan Null, CCM Department of Meteorology & Climate Science, San Jose State University, Armani’s death is the first child hot car death of the year.

The incident is currently under investigation. Check back for updates.
