Louisville Police Uphold Charges Against Scottie Scheffler Following PGA Championship Arrest

PGA golfer Scottie Scheffler is due in court on June 3 after Louisville Police said charges against the golfer would not be dropped.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, Scheffler is accused of failing to stop at the scene of a fatal car crash earlier this month. He was arrested Friday outside Valhalla Golf Club and charged with assault of a police officer, reckless driving, criminal mischief, and disregarding officers’ signals directing traffic.

According to the arrest report, Scheffler was driving a credentialed PGA courtesy car when he “refused to comply and accelerated forward, dragging” the officer to the ground.

Police were already at the scene investigating the death of a volunteer who had been hit by a bus just outside the golf course.

During a Thursday press conference, police addressed speculation that the charges might be dropped or reduced. Officials pledged to “respect the legal process” with Scheffler set to be arraigned next month, DailyMail reports.

Speculation of the charges being dropped happened after Louisville Metro Police Department Detective Bryan Gillis received “corrective action” after an internal investigation into Scheffler’s arrest revealed he failed to turn on his body camera, FOX News Digital reports.

“We are all looking to move forward,’ Mayor Greenberg said. ‘But we have to respect the legal process. And that’s what we are going to do. We are going to let that play out.”

In Kentucky, second-degree assault is classified as a Class C felony, which is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
