REWARD for Information: Search Underway for Suspects Who Shot at NC Officers

Polkton police in North Carolina  are searching for several suspects after someone opened fire at them Friday before fleeing.

QC News reported that on Friday evening around 10 p.m., the Polkton Police Department received a phone call concerning a suspicious person near the Wyndsor Down Apartments in Polkton. While en route to the call, officers observed a group of people coming from the direction of an area where an attempted carjacking had occurred earlier in the day.

Channel 9 WSCO-TV spoke with a resident at the Wyndsor Down Apartments who also noticed suspicious activity from the individuals.

“We saw them because I told her to look at those guys trying to get around that silver car at the end; that’s where they were. ‘So, do you think they were trying to break in and steal it?’ Yeah,” said the resident.

The group headed through a small wooded area near the entrance of South Piedmont Community College when the officers tried to approach them. The group then took off running toward the college.

While in pursuit, an officer noticed one of the individuals in possession of a handgun. The officer called for backup as the group ran around a building.

When the officers got out of the police vehicle, they were immediately fired upon by one of the suspects. The officers were not injured, but the police vehicle sustained multiple gunshot holes, according to QC News.

Another person, Sabrina Watts, told WSCO-TV that the area is typically peaceful. After this incident, Watts is taking some precautions:

“Well, I always keep my car locked, but I don’t always keep my doors locked. Sometimes during the day, I don’t have it locked, but I will start making sure it’s locked all the time now,” Watts expressed.

The Polkton Police Department is offering a reward for information on this ongoing investigation. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-272-0130.
