The Wise County School Board in Virginia met for the first time Monday, since the disappearance of Travis Turner, a Union High School football coach wanted on child pornography charges.
According to News 5, the “tense” meeting resulted in parents demanding more answers after allegations of Turner engaging in inappropriate acts with students.
Wise County School Board Chair, Larry Greear, stated that public comments at the meeting were closed, since the meeting centered around employment.
Greear acknowledged the issues surrounding Turner, stating that the school has resources in place to help students.
“Our main focus is the kids, we want to keep them as normal as possible,” Greear said. “We have resources, we have counseling services available in addition to what they ordinarily have at that particular site.”
Parents, however, are frustrated with the lack of answers.
One parent told News 5 that they were “aggravated and concerned” about what appears to be a “lack of communication from the school board.”
Greear said public comment will be available during the next meeting on January 12.
Meanwhile, the search for Tuner continues.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, Turner, the former head football coach in Big Stone Gap, left into a wooded area near the residence in Appalachia, on November 20.
The U.S. Marshals Service is offering a “reward of up to $5,000 for information” that leads to Turner, who is facing five counts of child pornography possession.
Turner has since been removed from the staff member website at the high school.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact Virginia State Police Division 4 at 276-484-9483 or send an email questions@vsp.virginia.gov. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
