Grammy-Nominated Musician Dead, Suspect with Over 100 Arrests Faces New Charges

A Rhode Island woman with over 100 arrests, with a large percentage of traffic violations, reportedly struck and killed a Grammy-nominated musician while he walked his dogs.

On the morning of December 6, Hopkinton police were called to the scene, where they discovered a dark-colored SUV smashed into a telephone pole on Spring Street in Hope Valley.

Before striking the pole, it is believed the driver not only hit several other objects, she also reportedly hit a pedestrian walking his dogs.

The pedestrian, as CBS News reported, was Grammy-nominated musician Roderick Macleod, 70. Macleod had been walking his dogs on the eastbound lane shoulder when the vehicle struck him.

First responders rushed him to the Rhode Island Hospital, where he died due to his injuries.

Macleod was known in the 80s for being nominated for a Grammy for his work with the band Roomful of Blues and for being inducted in 2014 into the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame, according to The Westerly Sun.

Police stated that Shannon N. Godbout, 41, “was traveling eastbound on Spring Street when she left her lane and struck several objects, including two telephone poles and the pedestrian walking his dogs.”

Godbout was found at the scene. Police also found “numerous illegal narcotics and packaging materials commonly associated with drug distribution” in Godbout’s possession. Godbout was taken for evaluation to Westerly Hospital.

Chief Carrier of the Hopkinton Police Department said that Godbout’s “criminal history includes over 100 arrests,” and he said that she “has received 40 traffic citations.”

Godard has been placed under arrest and is facing charges of driving to endanger, resulting in death and possession of narcotics, Schedule I/II, with intent to distribute, 3rd plus offense.
