Genesis Reid: Missing Alabama Tot Killed on Christmas, Mom Caught Dumping Toys & Duffel Bag

An Alabama mother is behind bars after police say she killed her tot daughter, Genesis Reid, on Christmas Day.

According to Al.com, Enterprise Police Chief Michael Moore said Monday that Adrienne Reid, 33, has been charged with capital murder.

Although the child’s remains have not been found, police believe Reid put her in a duffel bag, placed in a dumpster at her Enterprise apartment complex.

Investigators said searches are planned at the Coffee County Landfill, which could take months.

“I need the public to understand that this will not be an easy or fast search,” Coffee County Sheriff Scott Byrd said.

“The subject dumpster where the bag we are looking for was picked up on December 26. It was compacted in the truck that picked up it.

“It was taken to a distribution facility and compacted again. It was taken on another truck to the landfill where it was processed further with bulldozers and a compacting machine.”

As CrimeOnline previously reported, Reid claimed she discovered Genesis missing from bed on February 16, and noticed a door had been opened at their apartment, at 201 Apach Drive.

Reid reported Genesis missing at 3:10 a.m. that morning, according to police.

Neighbors said that they haven’t seen Genesis for weeks, but prior to January, they saw her many times, while out on walks with her mother.

Police said Monday that Genesis visited family members on Christmas Day in Dothan. Later that night, at around 11:30 p.m., security footage showed Reid placing a rolling duffel bag in the dumpster.

Two days later, Reid allegedly returned to the dumpster and threw away toys and other items. Police said they believe the items belonged to Genesis.

“Through the careful and methodical work of investigators, we have reached the heartbreaking and horrific conclusion that her mother, her caretaker, the one that should have been there to keep her safe, willfully murdered Genesis and placed her in a duffle bag and discarded her in a dumpster,” Moore said.

In addition to capital murder, Reid is facing one count of providing false information to law enforcement and one count of corpse abuse.

Coffee County District Attorney James Tarbox said he will seek the death penalty, according Live 5 News.

“She literally threw her in the trash, and then she engaged in a 53 day long campaign of deceit, lies and manipulation,” he said.

Reid remains behind bars without bond. Check back for updates.
