A trial is underway for former anesthesiologist Gerhardt Konig, accused of trying to kill his wife last year, on the Pali Puka hiking trail in Hawaii.
According to COURT TV, Gerhardt Konig is currently on trial in Honolulu, charged with attempted murder and assault.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, the incident happened on March 24, 2025, as the defendant visited the historical Oʻahu viewpoint with his wife, Arielle Konig. They left their children at home with a sitter for what was supposed to a romantic getaway.
While on the edge of the trail, Koenig stopped Arielle and asked her to take a selfie by the cliff’s edge, according to court documents.
Konig allegedly grew enraged when Arielle became uncomfortable with the request, telling her,”Go back over there, I’m so f—ing sick of you.”
As she began to walk away, Konig allegedly pushed her and began attacking her.

When later describing the assault to police, Arielle said her husband dragged her toward the cliff’s edge, attempted to inject her with “an unknown substance” using a syringe, and hit her “repeatedly on the head” with a rock.
“I quickly realized he was seriously trying to make me fall off the cliff,” she later wrote in a petition.
A witness at the scene corroborated the victim’s story, telling investigators that she heard Arielle screaming for help. The witness saw Konig on top of Arielle, hitting her in the head with a rock.
Later that day, officers with the Honolulu Police Department arrested Konig near near Pali Highway, “following a brief foot pursuit,” police stated in a news release.
Arielle was taken to an area hospital in critical but stable condition, with multiple face lacerations.
Following the attack, Arielle Konig secured a 180-day restraining order and filed for divorce. In the petition, she accused him of sexually assaulting her. She also claimed Konig had accused her of having an affair.
Konig who worked for “an independent entity contracted to provide medical services at various medical facilities on Maui,” was suspended amid the investigation, according to ABC 11.
He has pleaded not guilty. Check back for updates.
