A 25-year-old Venezuelan man is accused of fatally shooting Sheridan Gorman, an 18-year-old Loyola University freshman walking with friends near campus to see the Northern Lights.
Near Tobey Prinz Beach, a masked man in black ambushed the group, and as they ran, Jose Medina, 25, opened fire, striking Gorman in the back.
Police used surveillance video to track Medina and arrested him at his nearby apartment, where officers reportedly recovered clothing and a .40-caliber handgun matching shell casings from the scene.
Chicago Police say the shooting appears to have been random. Medina is facing felony charges of first-degree murder and aggravated use of a firearm.
