Police have alleged that an Easley, South Carolina, mother found dead with her two kids in her SUV fatally shot another woman near her estranged husband’s apartment hours earlier, in addition to killing herself and her children, according to The Washington Post.
Amid a custody dispute, Jessica Edens, 36, (pictured left) told police a day before the alleged grisly-murder suicide that her husband, Ben Edens, has been having an affair for a year, according to a police report acquired by ABC.
Greenville Police Chief Ken Miller said the mom-of-two shot and killed Meredith Rahme, 28, (pictured right) in the parking garage of her husband’s apartment on Thursday afternoon. Two hours later, Jessica’s body, along with the bodies of her 9-year-old son, Hayden King, and 5-year-old daughter, Harper Edens, (pictured center) were found in her locked SUV seven miles away, according to police.
“There is some indication that about the time of the custody decision that she had some sense of inflicting violence either on the children or on herself or both. But that wasn’t discovered until after she was discovered last night,” Miller commented.
Investigators revealed that all three were shot in the head or neck. While a gun was recovered from the vehicle, authorities have declined to confirm who fired the shots in the SUV. They did mention that a similar weapon was used to kill Rahme.
Chief Miller revealed that Rahme reported threatening calls and texts from Jessica weeks before the shooting. The Daily Mail reports that the slain woman was the target of an anonymous online attack on Wednesday.
The now-deleted post was scathing, according to reports.
“This little girl has no self respect and no morals. She dates married men who have children and she doesn’t even want or like kids. Her character speaks enough for her,” the post read. “Remember homewrecker, that karma is a b***h, just like you. You will get what you deserve.”
Police said that Rahme was found dead in the driver’s seat of her car. They are currently investigating whether Jessica was waiting for Rahme or if she followed her to the parking garage.
