Nevada man filmed himself sexually abusing toddler, sent video to Florida-based pedophile

A Nevada babysitter who filmed himself sexually abusing a 2-year-old then shared the photos and videos with an online acquaintance will serve 60 years in prison, a federal judge ruled Thursday.

Jason Barber, 39, of Las Vegas reportedly recorded the unthinkable act at the request of Benedict Shaw, of Lauderhill, Florida. Shaw, who was sentenced to 45 years for his involvement in 2014, reportedly provided Barber with graphic instructions on how to pose the girl and what to do to her, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

“Take pics and vids. This will make my night and my packages worthwhile. No one else will ever see it. I promise I never break my word.”

Connecting through an online chatroom for people with a diaper fetish, Shaw sent the 39-year-old diapers, a cellphone, baby oil, and a pacifier.  Barber was dating the child’s mother. He convinced his girlfriend to let him watch the toddler while she worked.

A man who purchased the cellphone from Barber and discovered the illicit images contacted authorities. The Associated Press reported tips about the emails led a task force to Shaw in South Florida and Barber in Las Vegas. The 39-year-old was arrested on December 18, 2013.

Prosecuted in Miami, Barber pleaded guilty to several charges, including producing and distributing child pornography. US District Court Judge Robert N. Scola Jr. handed down the 60-year sentence despite Barber’s defense attorney’s calls for leniency.

“Before the court is an extremely frail, unstable and mentally infirmed man who was dealt an awful deck of cards from the very beginning,” Hugo Rodriguez wrote in a memorandum obtained by the Miami Herald. “Jason understands and knows what he did was wrong, for which he is very remorseful.”
