Police: Man left elderly mom in feces, urine for weeks because 911 is ‘too expensive’

A Lizton, Indiana, man is accused of leaving his octogenarian mom to literally rot in a mattress full of urine and feces on the floor of his home.

Responders arrived at the home early Monday and found Mark Kincaid’s elderly mother severely dehydrated, naked, and stuck to the mattress, according to the IndyStar. Court documents obtained by the paper revealed that Kincaid, 54, told responders that his mom fell six weeks ago but he wasn’t able to pick her up, so he left her on the ground. Officers also noted seeing an outline of the woman’s body in the filthy mattress after she was picked up.

When asked why didn’t he call for help sooner, the 54-year-old allegedly responded: “You guys are too expensive.”

Medics told police that some of her skin fell off as they removed her from the waste-soaked bed. RTV reported that investigators described the residence Kincaid and his mother lived in as “deplorable.” However, the Litzon man characterized the conditions of the home as “bad or not good.”

Kincaid supposedly told responders that his mom hasn’t acted normally in months but she was speaking three days before someone called 911. He also claimed he fed her a spoonful of food every day and “a drink of water with her medicine.”

Doctors determined the 80-year-old sustained “large areas of red, seeping sores” on her left side. Police said the sores were so severe that she screamed in agony when nurses repositioned her so investigators could take photos.

Medics claimed Kincaid was “indifferent” about his mother’s grave condition. Officials said she is in critical but stable condition as of Friday afternoon.
The 54-year-old was arrested Thursday and charged with neglect of a dependent. He is being held on a $7,500 bond at the Hendricks County Jail.
