Domestic violence victim leaves puppy in airport bathroom with heartbreaking note

A chihuahua puppy found abandoned in a Las Vegas airport bathroom came with a handwritten note from his owner explaining why she’s leaving him behind.

The pup, named Chewy, was abandoned in Las Vegas International Airport over the weekend, according to Fox 11. In the letter, the woman explains she was leaving her abusive boyfriend but was unable to take Chewy with her.

“My owner was in an abusive relationship and couldn’t afford to get me on the flight,” she wrote. “She didn’t want to leave me with all her heart but she has NO other option.”

Chewy’s owner also reveals that her abusive boyfriend kicked the dog in the head, resulting in a “big knot” on his head. She mentions that dog probably needs to see a vet.

While it is unclear who discovered Chewy, Fox News reported that airport authorities turned him over to Connie and Millie’s Dog Rescue (CMDR).

“This one really got to me. You could tell by the way the note was written that the woman was in dire stress and she didn’t want to give him up and she couldn’t take him with her,” CMDR owner Arlene Blair said.

The Las Vegas-based shelter has been flooded with requests to adopt Chewy since the story hit social media. Others have called for the puppy to be reunited with his owner.

While Chewy is safe and sound, airport officials took the opportunity to remind pet owners that abandoning animals in the airport isn’t safe.

The letter concludes: “I love Chewy sooo much. Please love and take care of him.”
