Police charge both parents with murder after bruised infant son dies in the hospital

Police have arrested two Georgia parents and charged them with murder following the death of their 8-month-old son, according to NBC 11.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has reported that Sanchez Dyron Ussery Jr. was found unresponsive in his crib shortly after midnight on Thursday night. His parents, Sanchez Dyron Ussery, Sr., 25, and Latorrica Allen, 23, are said to have brought the child to the emergency room, where he was pronounced dead.

Responding officers noted that the deceased 8-month-old had visible bruises on his chest and the right side of his stomach which led to a criminal investigation and the eventual arrest of both parents.

Allen told investigators that she came home from work to find Ussery trying to revive their son. The father called 911 after he couldn’t resuscitate the infant with CPR, according to a Monroe County Sheriff’s Office incident report.

The pair were arrested Friday and charged with felony murder and first-degree cruelty to children. They are currently being held without bond. Police have yet to announce why they think the parents may have killed their own infant son.

It has been reported that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s (GBI) Crime Lab performed an autopsy on the child the same day. His official cause of death has yet to be revealed.

Ussery and Allen will petition the Superior Court of Monroe County for bond at a later date, according to WGCL. It is unknown if they have received any form of legal counsel. As of now, they are still behind bars.
