Original Story:

Police in Trenton, New Jersey, have launched an investigation after officers discovered a woman’s body in a trash bag Monday afternoon.

The Trentonian reports that officials received a call around 4:45 p.m. about a body in a trash bag on the side of the road on the 400 block of Lamberton Street. Responding police recovered human remains of an unidentified woman from the bag. The area was shut down for several hours following the grisly discovery.

Officials said it is too early in their investigation to determine a cause of death, how long the body was in the bag or whether homicide is suspected. However, the local paper noted that drug busts occur regularly on Lamberton Street.

The Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office was notified to conduct an autopsy. The Mercer County Homicide Task Force is investigating the case, according to News12.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the Mercer County Homicide Task Force at 609-989-6406 or Trenton Crime Stoppers at 609-278-8477.
