Christian school teacher accused of sexually assaulting young student

A former teacher at a Christian school in Waldoboro, Maine, was arrested Thursday for allegedly sexually assaulting a student who was under the age of 14.

Kennebec Journal & Morning Sentinel reports that the alleged incident involving Nancy Leigh Ann Brann, 43, occurred in the fall of 2016 while she worked as a teacher at Coastal Christian School. Police said the school terminated Brann shortly after the encounters occurred for unrelated reasons.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office wouldn’t provide additional details but noted that there’s no indication that the K-12 school was aware of Brann’s alleged behavior before being alerted by investigators, according to the Bangor Daily News.

Police have charged the 43-year-old with one count of Class A gross sexual assault and one count of Class C unlawful sexual contact. She was released the same day after posting $10,000 bail.

As a condition of her release, Brann is barred from contacting the victim, returning to Coastal Christian School, or contacting children younger than 16.

It is not yet known when Brann is due for her next court appearance. CrimeOnline will provide an update when more information is available.
