Man writes suicide note, shoots teen girl to death before turning gun on self: Police

Police in Pennsylvania are investigating after a 16-year-old girl and her uncle were found dead Friday night in an apparent murder-suicide.

According to the Pocono Record, family members fled the Tobyhanna home to a neighbor’s to call 911. At the time, police responded to a report of a female being shot with the suspect still in the home. Upon entering the residence, officers reportedly discovered the teen and the man dead in the same room.

Pocono Mountain Regional Police told the Pocono Record that the victim and the man, identified as 63-year-0ld Freddie Simmons lived at the Tobyhanna home. A note believed to be written by Simmons revealed that he planned on “taking the juvenile with him,” police said.

WFMZ reported that the teen was found with multiple gunshot wounds and Simmons suffered a single gunshot wound to the head. Authorities declined to provide the teen victim’s name.

“Just peaceful, calm people you would never assume that anything even close to this would occur,” neighbor Dereck Dailey told the station.

“We’re still somewhat confused and shocked and sad.”

Police said their investigation is ongoing but they are treating Friday’s incident as a murder-suicide, according to Penn Live.
