An Ovilla, Texas, couple is accused of drugging, kidnapping, and keeping a woman as a slave for two weeks.
According to WFAA, a tip led local police to the home of Jean-Claude Demars, 51, and Charlotte Demars, 41. There, the couple allegedly took officers to a bedroom where a 51-year-old woman was allegedly chained to a bed.
An arrest warrant obtained by WFLD stated that the victim claimed she had been having an affair with Jean-Claude. According to her, the long-term relationship also entailed him paying for her to stay in a motel. However, she says she recently ended up in a woman’s shelter when he abruptly stopped paying for her room and board.
The victim alleged that Jean-Claude picked her up from the shelter on January 14 and took her to a gas station to get a drink. She said the next thing she knew was she felt dizzy and she was tied up, according to the affidavit.
Documents also claim that the room the woman was held captive in was covered in feces. WFAA reported that she was told she would be “Charlotte’s slave” and only given a bucket to urinate and defecate in. She claimed she managed to get help after the couple gave her a tablet computer to use.
Though Jean-Claude allegedly admitted to picking up the woman from the shelter, he said she began to act “loopy” and passed out after they got drinks at a gas station.
“Mr. and Mrs. Demars told officer[s] that they did apply the chains and shackles to [the victim], but only because [she] requested it to avoid killing them in their sleep,” the affidavit reads.
In addition to various restraints, officers reportedly located pills in Charlotte’s bag. Authorities are testing them to determine whether they were used to drug the victim.
Meanwhile, the Texas couple is charged with kidnapping. They are each being held on a $150,000 bond.
