An Indiana judge sentenced a Darlington mother to 120 years in prison Monday for murdering her two children hours after her husband filed for divorce.
Brandi Worley, 31, fatally stabbed her two children, Tyler, 7, and Charlee, 3, on the morning of November 17, 2016. WXIN reported that the mother stabbed herself in the neck before calling 911 to confess her crimes.
Court documents obtained by the news station revealed that Brandi’s husband had filed for divorce and she admitted that she killed their children to stop him from taking them.

After filing for divorce, Jason Worley went to sleep in the basement of their home. When he woke up, his children were dead, according to WRTV.
The Indiana mother was expected to plead not guilty by reason of insanity. She ultimately avoided a trial by pleading guilty in January to two counts of murder.
“She appeared to be just as unremorseful as she did in the 911 call,” Jason told WXIN, referring to Brandi entering her guilty plea. “She spoke in a very matter of fact manner when describing her crime. It was heart-wrenching to hear her speak as she did.”
Montgomery County Circuit Court Judge Harry Siama sentenced Brandi to 55 years on the first count and 65 years on the second count. The sentences will run consecutively, and she was credited for the 476 days she’s already served.
“Sometimes there is no explanation,” Siamas said after four minutes of silence. “Darkness is in this world…And it penetrates minds and our hearts.”
