Army vet allegedly used butter knife, hands & teeth to decapitate mom

A Mississippi Army veteran has reportedly confessed to killing his mother, who was found decapitated in her backyard earlier this month.

From the Hattiesburg AmericanTerrelle Johnson, 29, told investigators that he killed Sherry Johnson, 51, a high school guidance counselor, during an argument about credit cards that became physical. He allegedly recounted strangling his mother before using a butter knife, his teeth, and hands to remove her head from her body.

On June 6, Sherry’s body was reportedly found near a fence in her backyard—with her head located about 15 feet away. Investigators believe she had been dead for several days before she was discovered, according to the newspaper. An autopsy suggested that the guidance counselor died after suffering blows to the head.

Authorities made the grisly discovery after a concerned relative requested a welfare check. According to The Sun Herald, Terrelle was sitting on the front porch when police arrived and claimed that his mother had gone out with a friend.

“When I entered the bedroom,” sheriff’s Captain Ray Boggs said, “I immediately noticed blood everywhere.”

While Sherry was last seen alive with her son on June 3, Terrelle reportedly told family members that his mother was on a cruise. However, Sherry had never mentioned going on a trip, according to People.

The magazine went on to report that Terrelle said he dumped his mother’s body in the backyard after it began to stink.

The vet’s attorney, Jim Davis, indicated that his client had mental health issues. Though it’s unclear whether they’ll be pursuing an insanity defense.

Upon being led to court Wednesday, People reported that Terrelle was heard yelling, “I plead guilty… [I’ve] done it!”
