‘Mom’ tries to poison young sons by putting lighter fluid in their sodas: Report

A North Carolina mother is facing criminal charges for allegedly trying to kill her two young sons by putting lighter fluid in their sodas.

WNCN reported that Octavia Robinson, 34, allegedly tried to kill her 6- and 10-year-old sons Sunday at a Motel 6 in Fayetteville. Neighbor Tracy Madison, who said one of Robinson’s children knocked on the door and said their mother had given them something to drink that didn’t smell right.

“As soon as you popped it, it hit your face, it was hurting your stomach,” Madison said of the soda bottle’s contents.

According to the news station, Robinson had been released from the hospital mere hours before Sunday’s incident. Police said she underwent evaluation after making violent threats.

Madison said she was watching the children while their mother was hospitalized. She claimed she told the boys to let her know if their mother does anything odd once she returns from the hospital.

After being presented with the soda, Madison reportedly went to Robinson’s room but she wouldn’t open the door. That’s when Madison called police.

Madison told WNCN that the 6-year-old had ingested some of the tainted soda. Authorities said both boys were released from the hospital and are in the custody of the Department of Social Services.

Meanwhile, Robinson was arrested and charged with distributing food containing noxious or deleterious material and misdemeanor child abuse.

During a Tuesday court appearance, the mother-of-two launched into an expletive-packed meltdown and asked the judge to terminate her parental rights. The Fayetteville Observer reported that the judge ultimately ordered her to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

The mother barked back, “How many more psych evaluations have to be done before you see there’s nothing there?”
