Tween girl tried to poison 4-year-old stepbrother because she thought mom loved him more, police say

A 12-year-old Kentucky girl was arrested after allegedly trying to poison her 4-year-old stepbrother because she believed their mother loved him more.

WSMV reported that the mother discovered Skype messages between her daughter and a man in Texas where she wrote that she wanted to “get rid of him,” referring to her stepbrother. A police report alleged the girl put Mr.Clean in her stepbrother’s water bottle and made him drink it.

The boy began vomiting and suffering from diarrhea, leading the mother to talk to her daughter and call police. The daughter admitted that she had poisoned the boy because she felt their mother loved him more, according to WTVF.

When deputies had the mother question the 12-year-old in front of them, the teen reportedly said she tried to kill her stepbrother “because he was annoying her.”

Christian County Sheriff’s Office Chris Miller explained that the girl was charged with murder because there are no attempted murder charges in Kentucky. Miller said the results of a medical evaluation will determine whether they’ll downgrade the murder charge to a charge that’ll hold the same penalty.

“Obviously this is not something that’s normal,” he said. “It’s quite normal for brothers and sisters to fight, brothers and sisters to disagree. This is kind of above the normal for what we would expect out of that age.”
