Toddler boy suffers chemical burns after mom sprays him in face with bleach: Cops

A West Virginia mother was arrested Wednesday after allegedly admitting to spraying her 16-month-old son in the face with bleach.

According to WOWK, Sylvia Lynn Eden, 27 of Parkersburg, was arrested weeks after the hospital her son was treated at alerted police to the child’s disturbing and suspicious injuries―which entailed chemical burns to his face, shoulder, and back.

At first, Eden allegedly told officers that her 4-year-old daughter had sprayed the toddler while the toddler sat in his crib. Police said she ultimately confessed to spraying her son in the face with bleach and then leaving him in his crib for 20 minutes before tending to him.

Eden claimed she sprayed her son because she was upset that he was crying, the news station reported. The West Virginia mother allegedly said she blamed her young daughter because she believed the child would be unable to dispute her claims or say otherwise.

Eden was charged with child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury and child neglect creating serious bodily injury. She’s currently jailed on $200,000 bond.

WOWK reported that Eden’s two children were placed in the custody of family and family friends following her arrest.
