Mom locks small kids in hot car on 99-DEGREE day & attacks Good Samaritan who called 911: Cops

A Louisana mother is facing criminal charges for allegedly leaving her two young children in a car parked at a shopping center Sunday afternoon and assaulting a bystander who attempted to intervene.

NOLA.com reported that temperatures in Kenner reached 91 degrees—though it felt like it was 99 degrees. Police said this didn’t stop Shawnise Sherman, 22, from leaving her 11-month-old and 3-year-old in her car for more than an hour.

A bystander and other shoppers reportedly had managed to rescue the children by the time police responded to the scene at around 1:30 p.m. According to The Advocate, Sherman had confronted the bystander and witnesses before police arrived in addition to assaulting the bystander who called 911.

The Louisana mother was arrested and charged with child desertion and simple battery. Her children were reportedly treated at the scene and released into the care of a relative.
