Wedding guest dies after driver punches him in face for knocking on his car window: Report

The killer is still at large

Police in New York are looking for a driver who reportedly fatally punched a Florida man who mistook him for his ride and had knocked on his car’s window.

WPEC reported that Sando Szabo, 35, of Boca Raton, died days after the assault which occurred early Sunday in front of a hotel in Long Island City. Szabo was in New York for his stepsister’s wedding and was reportedly leaving the hotel where his brother was staying when he was punched.

Friends told the news station that Szabo was knocking on car windows to find his ride when one of the drivers exited his vehicle and struck Szabo in the face. The punch caused him to fall backward, hit his head on the concrete, and pass out.

The driver reportedly got back into his car and drove off, leaving the unconscious man to bleed out on the sidewalk.

“Me and the man, we picked him up and leaned him against a car so he would stop choking on his blood until the ambulance came,” a witness told WPIX.

Szabo was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. WPIX reports that he was pronounced dead on Sunday.

Police are now looking for the driver involved in Sunday’s fatal incident. They said he was seen wearing a light-colored, long-sleeved shirt and jeans.
