Blood seeping from ceiling leads cops to grisly murder-suicide: Police

Reports of blood coming from the ceiling led police in Florida to the bodies of an elderly couple who died in an apparent murder-suicide.

Per the Sun-Sentinel, a woman called police Sunday afternoon after noticing blood coming from the ceiling of her Margate apartment. When police knocked on the door and received no response, firefighters removed the door—which reportedly led to the discovery of two bodies.

Margate police Lieutenant Joseph Galaska said Sally Mantzouranis, 66, was found in her bed while her husband, Nicholas Mantzouranis, 84, was found next to her on the floor with a pistol nearby. WPLG reported that the couple had gunshot wounds to the head.

Another neighbor told the Sentinel that a bullet went through his apartment but he wasn’t aware of the shooting until police arrived at the scene Sunday. Police reportedly received several calls about shots being fired.

The motive behind Sunday’s apparent murder-suicide is unclear.

“Detectives are still actively investigating this incident, but believe there is no danger to the public at this time,” Galaska said Monday.
