‘Mom’ sound asleep as toddler wanders outside alone, locked out of home strewn with drug paraphernalia: POLICE

A New Mexico mother is facing charges after police say her 2-year-old daughter wandered outside of the family’s locked home by herself Thursday night, while her mother slept.

Doña Ana County sheriff’s deputies arrested 27-year-old Alexis Valdivia after responding to a 911 call by a neighbor, who reported seeing a toddler outside by herself just after 11 p.m, KVIA reports.

Authorities said the mother was asleep inside the Las Cruces home, located on the 2700 block of Doña Ana Road, along with her three other children under the age of nine.

Upon entering the residence with a search warrant, detectives discovered unsuitable living conditions, noting drug paraphernalia in the kids’ rooms and throughout the home.

Officials arrested Valdivia and took her to the Doña Ana County Detention Center. She’s charged with child abuse and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Investigators said the children are under the care of a family member.

The story is still developing. Check back with CrimeOnline as additional details become available.
