Father who killed in-laws, kidnapped wife & 2 kids in police standoff has domestic violence history: Report

A Michigan man is dead after allegedly fatally shooting his mother-in-law, her boyfriend, and their dog before kidnapping his wife and two young children.

Police said Bruce Huntley, 33, killed Lisa Bradley, 58, and her longtime boyfriend, James Cole, 54, Saturday after his wife and two children, ages 2 and 4, sought refuge at their home following Huntley’s arrest last week for domestic violence. Mlive reported that he was released from custody after posting $10,000 bond.

On Saturday morning, Huntley allegedly forced his way into the couple’s Spencer Township home, fatally shot them, and took his wife and two children back to their apartment against their will. Officers who arrived at the apartment made contact with the wife, who said Huntley was holding them hostage, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Kent County sheriff’s deputies were reportedly alerted to the double homicide after an acquaintance requested a welfare check. In addition to finding the pair’s bodies, authorities realized Bradley’s daughter and grandchildren weren’t at the residence, prompting them to dispatch investigators to the Wyoming apartment.

Negotiators at the apartment convinced Huntley to release his wife and children, according to the outlet. Meanwhile, Huntley refused to surrender and threatened to take his own life. A tactical team stormed the apartment several hours later and found him dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.

Documents obtained by the Free Press indicated Huntley was due in court on September 24 in regards to the domestic violence arrest.
