‘The kids are dead’: Two teens, 14, die in apparent murder-suicide

Police in North Carolina are investigating after a girl and a boy—both 14—were reportedly found dead in the boy’s home Monday in an apparent murder-suicide.

WRAL reported that family has identified the deceased teen girl as Sara Hill. Her family told the news station that the boy asked her to come over Monday, to which she obliged. They said that would be the last time she was seen alive.

The family said the pair wasn’t dating. Hill was homeschooled while the boy, whom The News & Observer identified as Matthew Decristo, attended a local high school. Her family said they had been friends for a couple of years and Hill would occasionally come over to talk.

According to KFSN, the teen boy’s father found them dead in the Angier home Monday night. WRAL reported that the girl’s father went to the boy’s home at one point that evening and called 911.

“The kids are dead. My daughter has been shot,” a man who identified himself as Leonard Hill reportedly said during a 911 call released by police Wednesday.

“Oh, my God, you guys get here.”

Authorities said no suicide note was left at the scene. A search warrant made public Thursday indicated that a rifle and spent cartridges were taken from the crime scene, according to the news station. The boy’s father allegedly told police that the weapon is usually locked up.

The document also stated that both teens had gunshot wounds: Hill was found lying on a living room couch while the boy was located feet away on the floor.

It’s currently unclear who shot whom. A motive is not yet known.
