U.S. Marshals reportedly find accused child rapist hiding in closet following weeklong manhunt

A Pennsylvania man on the lam since last week after being charged with child rape and assaulting an officer was reportedly found Friday in the bedroom closet of an Aston home.

According to Lehigh Valley Live, U.S. Marshals arrested David Allen Hamilton Jr., 47, without incident after receiving a tip indicating that he was staying with a family member. Marshals said they believe the home they found him in Friday belonged to a female relative.

The newspaper reported that Hamilton was charged September 19 with child rape and 10 other counts stemming from crimes that occurred in 2013. According to the Delaware News Journal, Hamilton is accused of repeatedly raping a child over the course of five years. However, KYW-TV reported that Hamilton had at least two victims who were younger than 13.

The Army Veteran faces additional aggravated assault charges for a September 21 incident where he allegedly attacked a police officer and tried to take their firearm.

The News Journal reported that Solebury Township police arrested Meredith Custodio, 58, on Wednesday for allowing Hamilton to hide out a Solebury home where she works as a live-in caretaker. The same morning, Hamilton allegedly stole a Toyota Avalon and fled; police believe he stole the car from the Solebury home.

According to KYW-TV, police said they received word from a “reliable eyewitness” that he spotted the stolen car in New Castle County, Delaware, on Wednesday.

It’s not immediately known whether the female relative will be criminally charged.
