A former middle school principal in New York who was arrested last year for allegedly sexually abusing a teen he met on Craigslist was recently offered probation as plea negotiations go into their third month.
The Post-Standard reported that Mark Trabucco, 40, was arrested in April 2017 after the victim, who is younger than 17, told a family member of the abuse. Police said the pair met at a strip mall and had multiple illicit encounters.
Trabucco was initially charged with two counts of felony criminal sex act and misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child.
According to the newspaper, the ex-principal’s attorneys have pushed for less than 10 years’ probation with sex offender registration. On Tuesday, however, prosecutor Misha Coulson offered her final proposition: Ten years’ probation in exchange for pleading guilty to the felony criminal sex act.
The victim is not a student at Adirondack Central School District Middle School, where Trabucco previously acted as principal. He was placed on administrative leave immediately following his arrest; reports indicated and that he’s no longer employed by the school district.
The presiding judge gave Trabucco a week to decide whether he’ll accept the prosecution’s offer. In the meantime, he remains free on bail.
