Sheriff: Reported Florida sighting of missing Wisconsin teen Jayme Closs likely isn’t credible

Following her parents’ deaths at their home in Wisconsin and her disappearance, police issued an Amber alert for 13-year-old Jayme Closs on Monday and leads began to pour in.

Her parents apparently died from gunshot wounds and authorities are treating her as missing and endangered.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, one reported sighting suggested she was caught on surveillance footage in Miami, Florida, about 1,700 miles from her hometown.

A witness reported seeing the missing teen in a vehicle with Wisconsin license plates.

According to WTMJ, however, Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald kept expectations low.

He said local authorities in Wisconsin are “actively researching that tip” after Miami police shared it on social media late Monday.

Reporters described Fitzgerald as apparently frustrated by the Florida agency’s decision to release the lead.

“Every tip continues to be followed up on and if it’s something we need to get out to you, you will get that information and it will come directly from me out to you,” he declared.

Authorities describe the girl as white, about 100 pounds and standing 5 feet tall. She has green eyes and strawberry blonde hair.

Investigators urge anyone with information about her possible whereabouts to contact the Barron County Sheriff’s Department by calling 715-537-3106.
