Unborn baby boy survives after pregnant mom is fatally shot by jealous ex with crossbow: Police

A baby in the U.K. is recovering after his mother was reportedly fatally shot in the stomach with a crossbow, forcing doctors to deliver him via an emergency caesarean.

The Evening Standard reported that Ramanodge Unmathallegadoo, 50, shot Sana Muhammad, 35, in front of her five children, ages 1, 4, 12, 15, and 17, as she stood in her kitchen Monday morning. Muhammad died three hours later after undergoing emergency surgery.

CNN reported that Unmathallegadoo is Muhammad’s ex-husband; Muhammad had three children with Unmathallegadoo and two with her current husband.

The slain woman’s current husband told the news outlet that he found Unmathallegadoo in the shed with the crossbow, at which point Unmathallegadoo chased him into his home. He claimed he instructed his wife to “run” moments before her ex-husband shot her.

The arrow was reportedly inches away from piercing the baby, named Ibrahim.

“The arrow went up into her heart but did not touch the unborn baby. The baby was due in four weeks. They operated with the arrow still in because it would have been too dangerous to take out,” Imtiaz Muhammad, 42, said.

While the Evening Standard reported that the newborn was “fighting for his life,” The Guardian, citing police, said the newborn is in stable condition.

Unmathallegadoo has been charged with murder. He’s scheduled to appear in court on Thursday. A motive for Monday’s attack isn’t immediately known.
