Mysterious cruise illness causes teen to bleed from EYES before going blind: Reports

A Missouri teen has reportedly gone blind after contracting an illness that has caused her to bleed from multiple orifices and suffer body pain, leaving doctors perplexed and without answers.

A GoFundMe for Jordyn Walker revealed that an illness she suffered following a July 2017 cruise returned two weeks before Christmas 2018, robbing her of her sight and leaving her fighting for her life. KMBC reported that Walker dealt with stomach and bowel issues every summer since the vacation she went on at age 15.

The symptoms are said to have escalated last summer when Walker reportedly experienced her regular symptoms in addition to bleeding from her nose, eyes, and ears. What followed was the teen’s loss of her sense of smell and taste, according to the news station.

WDAF reported that Walker was recently placed in the pediatric intensive care unit at the University of Kansas Hospital. The GoFundMe page stated that doctors removed parts of her orbital bones to relieve swelling but, despite their efforts, she “would be completely blind.”

“My whole face just turned purple and bruised and giant with blood,” Walker told the outlet.

Doctors are completely baffled as to what is afflicting the teen, and, more importantly, how to cure her. They’ve said her symptoms are consistent with an autoimmune disease, according to KMBC.

The station noted that she began to regain her smell after losing her sight, leaving the family hopeful that she will eventually regain all her senses. The family is reportedly planning to visit the Mayo Clinic in their ongoing quest for answers.

“I just want an answer. I just want to know why it happened,” Walker said. “Even if there’s not a cure, I just want to know why.”

“My whole face just turned purple and bruised and giant with blood,” Jordyn said.
